Long before becoming an icon of funk, acid jazz, and R&B, Roy Ayers was a promising young jazz vibraphonist. Originally released in 1967, Virgo Vibes was Ayers’ second album, and his debut for Atlantic. The LP features five cool, funky jazz tracks, featuring musicians such as Joe Henderson, Charles Tolliver, Bruno Carr, Jack Wilson and the mysterious pianist Ronnie Clark (Herbie Hancock playing under a pseudonym). The music is primarily hard bop, infused with the relaxed and sunny vibe that defined Ayers’ stellar career.

Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe first rose to prominence as members of New Edition. With the group on hiatus in the late ‘80s, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis suggested the three branch out on their own, and Bell Biv DeVoe was formed. The group’s approach turned the tables – with R&B pulling from hip-hop rather than the other way around. In fact, Public Enemy producer Eric Sadler, along with Hank and Keith Shocklee, made significant contributions, helping Bell Biv Devoe craft their debut album, Poison. The album and its title track both hit number 1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop chart, entered the top 5 on both the single and top 200 charts and went on to be certified Platinum 4 times over.
BBD’s landmark debut is presented for Record Store Day in a never-to-be-repeated Cherry Red pressing.

Brian Bennett is one of instrumental music's true cult figures. Drummer for Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Bennett also is the composer of some of the most collectible production music albums ever made, and for over 40 years has been a sought-after composer for TV and film. But of all his projects, his 1978 release "Voyage (A Journey into Discoid Funk)" is probably his most beloved, a truly pioneering "space disco" recording inspired by Brian Eno but wielding a groove all its own. Despite its absolutely eye-popping Discogs stats, our release marks its first vinyl reissue outside of Australia, and its first-ever release on colored vinyl (blue with black swirl), complete with original gatefold jacket art.

A special double LP Record Store Day 2022 exclusive, featuring two albums by the late Jay Bennett (Wilco) alongside the 2021 feature-length documentary "Where are you, Jay Bennett?," packaged in a gatefold jacket.
"Where are you, Jay Bennett?" is a feature-length documentary on Jay Bennett, a legendary musician who, as a member of Wilco, was a large part of the genius behind their three seminal albums (Being There, Summerteeth, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot -- he co-wrote most of Summerteeth and YHF with Jeff Tweedy) as well as the Mermaid Avenue/Woody Guthrie sessions with Billy Bragg, and who went on to a critically acclaimed solo career, before dying tragically at the age of 45
"Whatever Happened I Apologize" is best described by Brian Robbins of JamBands.com: "a departure from much of his past work. Simply put, the master of what-this-track-needs-is-one-more-weird-noise-and-it'll-be-perfect (and staunch defender of vinyl) has offered up a digital-only acoustic album much of it just the man, his guitar, and some pretty open emotions.”
"Kicking at the Perfumed Air" is a beautiful collection of personal songs that Jay Bennett was working on when he died. Released posthumously, the album was praised for its subtle beauty. Pitchfork said: "But Perfumed works simply because Bennett was such a keen craftsman, his mournfulness so elegantly expressed, and as such, nevertheless serves as a fitting elegy for an under-appreciated and occasionally misunderstood songsmith and musician taken too soon."

Almost thirty years after it was recorded, a great long lost record album is seeing the light of day. The Bleeding Hearts’ Riches to Rags is a remarkably solid collection of rock ’n’ roll songs featuring the guitar work of Bob Stinson, lead guitarist and founding member of the Replacements. This Record Store Day 2022 release is pressed on red vinyl with liner notes from Grammy award-winning journalist Bob Mehr, who wrote the definitive Replacements biography Trouble Boys. He describes Riches to Rags as “the final piece to the puzzle of Bob Stinson’s musical career."

Dave Brubeck Trio - Live from Vienna 1967 is an extremely rare, red-hot performance by Dave and his famous rhythm section -- Joe Morello, on drums, and Gene Wright on bass. Alto saxophonist, Paul Desmond, missed the plane to Vienna and the remaining trio took the stage with a mission; show the packed hall that the three of them could play up a storm despite being one man down. Each musician in the trio was at the top of their game and each player was forced to stretch out their solos which landed them in new creative territories. The communication of musical concepts between Dave and Joe is extraordinary as they improvise boldly and respond to each other's fresh ideas. Gene Wright solos far more than usual on this album and his playing is a fitting tribute to the longest living member of the Quartet. (Gene died on December 30th, 2020.) Dave Brubeck plays masterfully revealing a rhythmic complexity to his approach on the piano that is remarkable and reminds the listener of his extremely inventive approach to jazz improvisations. Harmonically, he also explores polytonality in the most unexpected places; for example, on the ballad "La Paloma Azul." On "Swanee River" Dave is playfully polyrhythmic. Dave's light touch on "One Moment Worth Years" is charming and gives a nod to the great more traditional pianists who went before him. On this great-sounding recording, you can hear the full breadth of Dave's playing which pushes jazz forward while honoring his past influences. Opening with "St. Louis Blues," the set includes the rhythmically challenging, high-spirited "Someday My Prince Will Come," and ends with "Take the A Train" as an encore. This is a thrilling set! The sound is wonderful and listening to this album will make you feel as if you were sitting in the audience that historic night.

Originally released in 1968 as an LA studio concept album, this instrumental album is a remarkable fusion of the psychedelic sounds of sitar and mellotron with angular guitar riffs and hard drum breaks. Featuring a lineup of Ry Cooder, Jim Gordon, Mike Deasy, and The Wrecking Crew (Los Angeles' top studio session musicians). The band recorded only this one album and most of the personnel went on to greater achievements. The quintessence of psychedelic rock in its full-blooming 1968ness. Chicago performed eight epic shows over the week of April 5-10, 1971 at Carnegie Hall in NYC (including two shows on two of those days). The entire run of shows was mixed by Chicago founding member/trumpeter Lee Loughnane, along with engineer Tim Jessup and issued as the 16 CD set Chicago At Carnegie Hall Complete.
This RSD Exclusive live show breakout was mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering.
Not long before recording his first songs for Bright Eyes, 14-year-old singer-songwriter Conor Oberst co-founded Commander Venus alongside bassist (and future Cursive frontman) Tim Kasher, guitarist Robb Nansel (now president of Saddle Creek Records), and drummer Matt Bowen (who would soon join the Faint and be replaced by Ben Armstrong). After releasing their 1995 debut, Do You Feel at Home?, the Omaha indie rockers caught the attention of Wind-up Records, who backed the group’s sophomore album, The Uneventful Vacation. While The Uneventful Vacation marked the musicians’ final record together, before they each embarked on their next ventures, this formative album has since become a cult favorite in the ’90s emo canon. This 25th Anniversary Edition is pressed on Red & Black Smoke vinyl with all-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. It also includes the bonus track, “Congratulations!” which appeared on the original vinyl release.

Limited edition picture disc of the UK band’s legendary fourth album, celebrating its 40th anniversary. Featuring the trio of singer/guitarist Robert Smith, drummer Lol Tolhurst and bassist Simon Gallup, this 1982 classic features “100 Years,” “A Short Term Effect,” and the single “The Hanging Garden.” Pornography is arguably the peak of The Cure’s early, darker sound, before they switched to a more pop orientated direction. The album had a huge influence on future dark wave and gothic rockers. Despite the album's dark themes it was their most popular release to date, breaching the UK Top 10.
Cypress Hill’s self-titled debut album was an instant classic. In 2021, for its 30th anniversary, two favorite tracks were remixed and released digitally, and they’re now ready to take the turntables, on 10” black vinyl, as part of Record Store Day’s 15th anniversary!

In 1962, Karen summoned Richard Tucker to join her in Colorado, extolling the healthier lifestyle, and plentiful gigs at Boulder folk club The Attic. Upon his arrival, the pair solidified their personal and professional relationship, riding horses in the mountains, and performing as a duo at parties and venues throughout Denver and Boulder. Stories of the spell they conjured - and rumours of tapes! - have circulated among friends and musicians who witnessed them, but until now, no recorded evidence had turned up. Shuckin' Sugar is the glorious result of three reel to reel tapes that miraculously found their way to us in November 2018, which featured two complete shows from The Attic in January '63, and a benefit concert for The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) recorded the following February. Their gigs would often include brief solo sets from Karen and Richard, in addition to the duets, and all seven solo songs of Karen's found on the three reels are included here, as well as five duets, sequenced as close to how it all went down as humanly possible. To describe the record would take a poet, but all I can say is that unveiling a missing chapter in the Karen Dalton story - with six songs we've never heard her sing before - is cause for celebration in Delmore's world.
"From her opening, jaw-dropping lift-off with early blues standard "Trouble In Mind," the unique otherworld Karen conjured springs into vivid life. Playing to audiences inevitably bound to the era's formalities and traditions, Karen instinctively pushed the envelope, straying into uncharted territory beyond the established borders. She must have bewildered many who came to see her in those winsome Peter, Paul and Mary times." --From the liner notes by Kris Needs

Kinked is a compilation of Dave Davies' work from the late '90s and early 2000s, featuring selections from the 1998 collection Unfinished Business: Dave Davies Kronikles 1963-1998, which itself contained a bunch of re-recordings from the late '90s of classic Kinks tunes. That accounts for a little under half of this 15-track collection. The rest is made up of selections from the 2000 live album Rock Bottom: Live at the Bottom Line (four tracks) and 2002's studio album Bug (two cuts), plus a couple of relative rarities -- "When the Wind Blows (Emergency)," which was written for the End Hunger Network in 1997, and a cover of George Harrison's "Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth," which was for a 2003 Harrison tribute album -- and a brand new tune, "God in My Brain," which was written and recorded in 2006, after Davies recovered from a serious stroke.

Gold Dust: Live At The Royalty, featuring highlights from Sandy Denny’s final concert, is making its debut on vinyl. Recorded just months before her untimely death in 1978, this special release attempts to present the record that Sandy might have released had she lived. The concert features a career-spanning set that includes songs taken from her band Fotheringay, Sandy’s solo albums (The North Star Grassman and the Ravens, Sandy, and Rendezvous), as well as her work with Fairport Convention on the albums Unhalfbricking and Rising for the Moon. This final performance perfectly captures the folk-rock sound with a stellar group of musicians including Trevor Lucas, Jerry Donahue, Pat Donaldson, Dave Mattacks, among others. It showcases the quality of Sandy’s songwriting throughout her career and includes her signature composition, “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?” – which was the first song she ever wrote – and “No More Sad Refrains” which closed her final album. Remastered from the restored tapes, this release features Sandy’s spoken introductions to each song, comprehensive sleeve notes, and brand-new artwork designed specifically for this release.
